DISCOVER ANTIBES ON YOUR OWN
How to get there from Aix en provence
If you are interested, our chauffeur will take you there from the Château.
THE OLD TOWN: Antibes has got the loveliest medieval town center, where you can stroll for hours in the narrow, cobble stoned alleys (some of them a little inclined), finding the right photo opportunities with all these typical old houses and their colourful pots, plants and decorations. Here you can find anything; the every day veggie and regional products indoor market (very typical for the region, and you can taste the real province), the weekend-only clothes market (in front of the indoor market), side streets with “an assortment of shops, money changers, little cafeterias and the12th century village church.
THE MARINA: You may also wish to relax on a bench, or walk along the Antibes marina, where you can check out millionaires’ yachts from all over the world, or even rent a boat yourself for the day (with or without a captain). At the end of the marina, you will see a fortress, dating from the 16th century to when it protected the town, called “Fort Carré” (square fortress). It now belongs to the French state and houses a military academy. THE PICASSO MUSEUM: In the old town behind the church, you will find the museum in a fortress, which was a bishop seat in medieval times, until the Grimaldi family of Monaco moved here in the 16th century. The top floor served the famous Spanish painter Pablo Picasso as a workshop in 1946, when he created a lot of his art works here within six months only. In the museum you can admire these works, which he offered the city of Antibes as thanks for their hospitality. Entrance fee 6 Euros, head set with commentary plus 4 Euros. Open every day, except Mondays, from 10:00AM-12:00PM and 2:00PM-6:00PM, in June, July and August from 10:00AM to 6:00PM non-stop.
